Introduction:   Nursing is one of the professions that focuses on taking care of the health of patients. Night shift causes various problems in nurses. One of these problems is the oral and dental health of nurses. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of investigating the predictors of oral and dental health behavior based on the theory of planned behavior in nurses of teaching hospitals in Birjand in 2022.
Methods:   This descriptive and analytical study was conducted on 267 nurses who were randomly selected from teaching hospitals in Birjand in 2022. The data was collected through a researcher-made questionnaire, which was confirmed to be valid and reliable. The questionnaire included demographic information and questions of the theory of planned behavior. After entering the SPSS software version 26, the data were analyzed with the help of descriptive statistics and regression tests and Pearson's correlation coefficient at a significance level of 0.05.
Results:   The results of the study showed that according to the standardized beta coefficient, among the constructs of the theory of planned behavior, the construct of behavioral intention (β=0.581) was the strongest predictor of oral and dental hygiene behavior.
Conclusion: According to the results of the study, behavioral intention and behavioral control are the main predictors of oral and dental health self-care behavior.
